Telangana: BJP brings in a pvt member's bill

Rajya Sabha will take it up on Friday

GN Bureau | March 10, 2010

While the government is dithering on Telangana, BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy has moved a private member's bill proposing a separate statehood for the region. It will taken up for consideration in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

The bill justifies separate statehood saying that "due to wrong policies some areas remained neglected in the fields of education, employment, irrigation, development, etc. Neglect and backwardness have led to an acute feeling of alienation among the people of the Telangana region, who have
been demanding a separate state since 1969.

The bill further notes that nine of the ten districts of Andhra Pradesh that come under the Telangana region (Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Mahboobnagar,
Medak, Nalonda, Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Nizamabad) have been recognized by the central government as  backward despite the fact that this region houses many natural resources.
