Team Anna wants Common Man to frame laws

To observe Republic Day as 'Save Republic Day'

PTI | January 23, 2012

Team Anna is planning to launch a new agitation demanding constitutional amendment to ensure people's participation in the framing of laws, key member Prashant Bhushan said on Sunday.

"To ensure that opinion of the people is given its due place while framing laws and policies, Team Anna is working on a draft on the lines of the Jan Lokpal Bill," Bhushan told reporters in Indore.

"While framing laws and policies in democracy, views of the people should be kept above everything but this is not happening. To oppose this, we will observe the coming Republic Day as 'Save Republic Day'," the noted supreme court lawyer said.

Team Anna will interact with people to ask them whether their opinions were considered while framing laws and policies and will make the draft public to have a wider discussion on it, Bhushan said.

"Over 100 amendments have been made to the Constitution. To incorporate people's views, another amendment to the Constitution can easily be made," he said.
