Nearly 35 armed Maoists burned 4 dumpers and 2 JCBs (earthmovers used in construction) belonging to a contractor who is building a 16 km road from Chottanagra to Thalkobad in Saranda in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Sunday night. The road is part of the 130 km road network planned for the region under the union government's Saranda Development Plan (SDP).

The insurgents executed the act around 11 pm on November 25 at Ushariya village in Digha panchayat, one of the six panchayats covered under SDP. They threatened the workers at the site and asked them to keep put while setting the machinery afire. The incident has created a wave of panic in  Ushariya and surrounding villages over fears of indiscriminate police action. However, according to reports from locals, CRPF is yet to visit the site.
