Preparations to hold state assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi are under way, with the preliminary conference of chief electoral officers of these states slated to be held in the national capital in the first week of June.

The five-year terms of three of these four assemblies get over in December this year, while that of Chhattisgarh ends on January 4, 2014

The terms of Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan assemblies will get over on December 12, 17 and 31, respectively.

A source in the election commission said the four states may have to go for polls somewhere in the first week of December 2013 so that deployment of police and security forces and other logistics can be sorted out.

In their meeting next month, chief electoral officers of these states will discuss the modalities of polling in these states. According to the source, the poll panel officers would follow it up with two further meetings in July and August.
